A personal chef is a different kind of chef to your regular chef at a restaurant or hotel. A personal cook is different from that of a private cook. A private cook will usually live with the family or come in every day and see to their meals. They could also be classified as someone with a service that takes care with menu planning if you are having a dinner party and don't want to worry about cooking.
To become a personal cook would entail going to your client's house and providing meals for their family which you would discuss with them beforehand regarding their diet and preferences. You would cook meals that would last a week at their house and freeze them in containers that would be well labeled. Busy people which could relate to working mothers or single people that don't have time to cook would take the containers out the freezer before going to work and warm them up when they get home.
This is becoming extremely popular and is being well utilized. A chef's salary does not always do justice to the amount of hard labour that is put in everyday, but the personal cook would definitely get the better deal. It would be a catering service that would not be taken for granted.
There is now a well established training course so you can become a personal chef without going to a culinary academy. There is lots of support from other chefs in the network who are willing to share ideas for recipes, menus and a website to get you started.
